KBG Chambers covering all courts across the South West

30th September 2015

All members of the KBG Chambers Civil Team regularly appear in county courts across the country for claimants and defendants.  Based in Plymouth, Truro and Exeter, Chambers is able to offer competitive fee rates for all types of hearings across Devon & Cornwall, including –

  • Small claims
  • Fast-track trials
  • Infant settlements
  • Fast-track disposal hearings
  • Credit hire cases
  • CMC's
  • CCMC's

As a Chambers, KBG believes in the importance of good communication between solicitor and barrister. Members of chambers will call the instructing solicitor after a hearing with the outcome and send a confirmatory e-mail for file purposes. Members are happy to receive papers by e-mail provided the e-mail and attachments are copied either to jamie@kbgchambers.co.uk or clerks@kbgchambers.co.uk (this is essential to ensure that receipt of the papers is logged and that cases can be diarised and monitored effectively).

At KBG Chambers we believe that lay clients deserve high standards of specialist advice and advocacy regardless of the value of their claim. We will provide at your request:

  • Advice on liability, quantum and evidence
  • Telephone or (if needed) face to face conference with solicitor and client
  • Assistance with ad hoc queries by phone or email where reasonably required

Although the sums involved may be modest by comparison with headline cases, “small claims” disputes often have major importance for the parties involved - not only because they may involve matters of principle but also because the courts seem to have become more willing to list claims for declaratory relief in the small claims track where there is a small or no money claim and the parties both wish to minimise their costs exposure. Such cases need not always result in litigation: alternative resolution of disputes may be achieved through arbitration, adjudication, mediation and negotiation. KBG Chambers' members can assist with each of these, providing advice and advocacy at a cost commensurate with the issues and sums involved. Not only can members of Chambers act as advocates, we have some members who can act as mediators.

Our members are adept at tailoring their roles to ensure that their input is cost effective. Their work can be arranged on a “fixed fee” basis or at an agreed hourly rate – whichever best suits the circumstances and value of the claim.
