Rawdon Crozier at the Professionalism in Property Conference

10th May 2018

Yesterday 9th May was the inaugural Professionalism in Property Conference at Old County Hall, London. The theme of this well-attended conference, which brought together leading property professionals with those representing leaseholder interests, was 'Regulation + Reform'. The keynote speech was delivered by the Chancellor of the High Court, Sir Geoffrey Vos, who foreshadowed changes which, ultimately, will see the twin jurisdictions Courts and Tribunals‎ brought within a single Property Court. In the interim Sir Geoffrey and a later speaker, Soibhan McGrath, President of the First Tier Tribunal, anticipated the extension of the successful London Pilot which has seen FTT judges qualified to sit in the County Court 'double hatting' - that is exercising both tribunal and county court powers - to provide parties with a 'one-stop-shop' for resolving disputes. Later in the day, Professor Nick Hopkins spoke about the Law Commission's planned reform of commonhold and leasehold enfranchisement. Professor Hopkins, Philip Rainey QC and Sebastian O'Kelly of the Leasehold Knowledge Partnership then took part in a lively panel session on Law Reform chaired by KBG's Rawdon Crozier.
